About me

My name is David Barrett, and I’m a web designer and developer from Dublin, Ireland; I have a strong focus on making sites that are useful. I’ve been working professionally on the web since 2001.

Although I prefer to work with the visual design and user interaction sides of web work, I’m comfortable with advanced Javascript and have expert-level knowledge of XHTML and CSS. I have a broad knowledge of current web trends and technologies, and do my best to keep up. I’ve also done some Ruby on Rails work.

In terms of formal qualifications, I hold an honours degree in Computer Science & Software Engineering from NUI Maynooth.

My design philosophy

Every thing that goes on the page gives an impression, one way or the other. Every piece of text says something. My goal as a designer is to cut out everything that misleads, everything that gives the wrong impression, from a design; until what remains is an honest piece of work.
